Geagea to Leave
Yarze Cell to Military
Hospital
February 12, 2002

Lebanese Forces jailed
commander Samir Geagea
has been allowed to leave
his solitary confinement
at the defense ministry
in Yarze for dental treatment
of toothache at the military
hospital in Beirut's mid-city
Badaro residential district.
Prosecutor-General Adnan
Addoum has approved the
transfer, the first for
Geagea since he received
his last of four life
terms in 1999 for a total
of 120 years in jail.
Addoum's Okay came during
a meeting with Geagea's
wife, Sethrida, and his
defense attorneys. Geagea
has been suffering from
toothache and gum infection
in recent weeks. The transfer
is expected to be carried
out once the written plea
by the attorneys is filed
through the proper channels,
the media reported on
Tuesday.
Geagea has been in prison
since 1994, when the government
outlawed the Lebanese
Forces. Pleas for parole
have been denied.
